Dodging A Bullet

What a week! I’m not even really sure where to start, since I don’t know how much I’ve told you already. I guess, to make it easier on the both of us, I will start with where I left off last week. Last Friday, we did end up meeting with our friend. I believe I mentioned there was no way that was not going to happen, I was right. It was nice. We met where we originally met, very nostalgic. It had been a while since we all saw each other. It seemed natural to slip right back into old times. She seemed very happy. She was a little bummed when we left. We had been together for 6 hours. That’s a lot. Especially when I’m trying to be good so I can drive home safely. It worked. Supposedly she had to wake up early, so I don’t know how much more “fun” we could have had, but I was ready. Taking it easy for long periods of time is not that “fun” for me. I get tired of beer, and feel like I need to move on to something a little less fizzy, and more (look both ways) dangerous. Plus, bar stools are not as comfortable as they once were. It was good to catch up, but nothing “good” was going to happen if we continued. The following night we did end up meeting with our other friend, and her boyfriend, for dinner. They were really nice. It was cool. Dinner was great, and they were a lot of fun. It was kind of a trip spending time with an old friend on one day, and then getting to know someone on the next. It puts things in perspective. After dinner they asked what we were doing. I mentioned my friend’s band playing, kind of hoping they’d bail, so we could, but they were into it, so we ended up going to see my friend’s band. Kind of.

I thought the bands were starting early, but they didn’t start ‘til 10! We stood around waiting for an hour and a half. By the time the first band started, we were ready to go. So we never actually saw my friend’s band. But we did get to see a bunch of our friends, which was kind of the point, so I guess it was technically a success. Everyone was complaining about the late start, it made me aware of why we don’t get a lot of them at our shows, they’d rather not be out. I guess that’s one of the problems with old friends, they’re old. Nothing personal, they just don’t want to be out late, standing around for hours, waiting in line for a drink. I get it, I almost bailed. Speaking of bailing, now I can get into this week. What a doozy! First of all, let’s fill in the back information, since I’m not sure how much I’ve already told you. My wife works almost an hour from home. Due to a medical issue, she is not allowed to drive right now. The person who hired her told her he would make sure she got there every day. Then he moved to Indiana! He’s “working” remote, but bailed on his promise to get her there. She told her boss, and he said she could mostly work from home. One of her coworkers lives near us, and said she would give my wife a ride a couple of days a week. It turns out the lady is a drunk person. Somewhere along the way, she was given the idea that it was okay to drink at work and has been doing so every day, for however long she’s been there. Riding home with this woman is making my wife a nervous wreck. It’s only been a month or so, and me and our daughter have been asked to come get her no less than 3 separate times, because my wife thought the woman was too drunk to drive. Home from work!

Apparently, it was especially bad last week, and the woman was actually driving into oncoming traffic! My wife had to grab the wheel. She was terrified. She’s thinking she should quit. Then last Friday her old job contacted her and asked if she would please come back. We thought this was the Universe giving us a sign. My wife jumped at the chance. She knew she had a few things to shore up, but was planning on letting them know today that she was leaving. Too much stress, she was so happy before. Then on Tuesday, I got a call around 3 pm that my wife had been left at the office. The drunk lady was at her car, waiting for my wife to come out. Then, for some unknown reason, the woman left. That was the last straw. My wife was pissed! If there was a chance of reconciling, it was over now. She would not ride with that woman anymore. My wife was not overly thrilled with the job in the first place, and now that she had no ride, it was an obvious choice. Then we got a call the next morning, the drunk lady was involved in an auto accident, and was in jail! She apparently T-boned someone, and put people in the hospital. She has no recollection. $100,000 bail! If my wife had been in that car, she would have been hurt too! I cannot believe how fortunate we are that the lady did leave her. Absolutely crazy! You never know what’s going to happen, but you couldn’t make this shit up. We really feel the Universe is shining on us. She dodged a bullet! I may have really wanted to hurt that lady, if she had hurt mine. The lady’s probably doing up to 4 years in jail, so literally my wife will never ride with her again. What a trip. I took her to work today, and hung out in the office, while she quit face to face! What a trooper.
