I am happy to feel like I’m finally getting into the habit of consistently doing this. It doesn’t feel like I’ve missed in a while. Yay! I also find it interesting that it seems to be happening right around the time where I’m having a lot to do. I try not to concentrate too much on what I wrote before. But, I do want this to be kind of a narrative. And, as far as I can remember, I still never finished writing about what happened Halloween weekend! But, as I wrote already, I don’t feel the need to finish, or continue, previous postings. If things don’t get wrapped up, oh well. I get distracted, oh well. Other ideas find their way to the top of my mental attention, okay. However, the unfinished business has been on my mind. And, if that’s what I’m thinking about, then that’s what I write about. So, I shall write about it. Especially since it kind of ties in nicely to what’s also on my mind today. There is quite a bit, and I hope not to get so distracted that I don’t get to all that I feel I have to say today. Before I get too much into the meat of today’s sesh, I’d like to get the band stuff out of the way. I’m stoked right now. My punk band had practice Tuesday, and my prog band is practicing tonight. Progress! The drummer in my prog band actually texted me how excited he is to be playing. That’s what I’m talking about! My punk band actually started working on a new song! It’s seeming to be coming together rather naturally. I’m happy about that. Especially since our drummer has been telling everyone that we’re taking time off from gigging to write new material. And we did! We are! It’s all very exciting. If you can’t tell. I also like it because I spent yesterday working on practice, and I’ll get to do it again tomorrow. Progress!
One last thing before moving on to today’s
thought. I got to do my first Podcast last Saturday! My punk band was invited
to be on a Podcast about the music scene in San Diego in the 90’s. It was fun.
It took a little longer than I thought it would, but it was cool, and I can’t
wait for it to come out. As I said, exciting! Okay, so that concludes band
news, now I’ll have to have you imagine the wavy lines, and the dreamy harp
music, as we go back to Halloween weekend. Saturday the 29th we went
to a friend’s party. We went last year, it was cool. It’s also the host’s
birthday, so it’s kind of a big shindig. We only really know the hosts. We have
a few friends in common, but not really. The friends we have in common, didn’t
even show up. However, there were a few people there who we didn’t know were
friends in common, so that was pretty cool. They get a band, it’s pretty fun.
My wife is a lot more social than I am. She spends a lot of time in the smoking
area, outside the house. I couldn’t believe how many people she was interacting
with. It seemed like she had known these people for a while, but she didn’t. A
lot of us were getting along. The band seemed a little bummed about the number
of people chilling outside, but, we were having fun. My wife was getting a lot
of phone numbers. She, and some of these other women, seemed like they were
planning on being lifelong friends after this meeting. I wasn’t sure if it was
just drunk talk or not, but I just let it go. Even one of the friends in common
said that the four of us should hang out some time. Again, I wasn’t sure if it
was just drunk talk, or maybe a new adventure.
Lately I had been thinking about the fact
that there hadn’t been any calls. That night, it seemed like they were going to
be friends forever. And then nothing. I found that odd. I guess it was drunk talk.
Oh well. No skin off my back. However, this afternoon, I got a message from my
wife that one of the friends in common reached out to us, and wants to have
dinner with us this weekend. What?! Now, this is a person we’ve known for a
while. I’ve known this person for more than 20 years, but we’ve never really
been “friends.” She is almost a local celebrity, and a very cool person to
know. She’s in the music scene, and definitely the kind of person that would be
a good friend to have. So, we don’t want to pass. Her man is cool too. However,
and this is the kicker, we are already kind of full this weekend. Apparently,
she wanted to meet tonight, but I have practice. Not only is tomorrow Veteran’s
Day, but it’s also a day we call Friendiversary. We have a friend that we met
on 11/11/11, and ever since then we always get together on 11/11. Tomorrow is
11/11/22, so it’s the 11th anniversary of 11/11/11. Hence, it is
becoming a big deal. I’m not sure what shape we’ll be in by dinner time, so
that might not work for other plans. Saturday night some friends of ours have a
gig. I wasn’t going to go, because they haven’t came to any of my gigs. But I
thought that felt petty, and I should support our friends, even if they don’t
feel the same way. So I planned on going, just to see our friends and be supportive.
But, now, with this most recent development, I have to seriously consider which
is more important. Or, I guess, which I would prefer. Although, I’m pretty sure
my wife’s preference will outweigh my druthers.
