Happy new month! How long would that take to get annoying? What about happy new day? I guess we kind of do that. “Good morning” is kind of the same thing, recognizing that it is a new day. Alright, I may start saying it just to see what happens. I like seeing what happens. Although it does not always go well, it’s still exciting. Things are getting to a fever pitch over here. My wife’s company party is tomorrow. Being an accounting firm, they are all pretty busy around the end of the year. So they always have their huge party after January is over. They still call it a “holiday” party, even though it’s kind of not a “holiday” party. It should be pretty fun. It’s “casino” themed. I’m not exactly sure what that means, especially since from what I’ve heard, there aren’t going to be any games. I guess that’s just the way we should dress. Which is a little confusing: “Wear your favorite casino attire!” I’m not exactly sure what that means. The casinos I go to, people are usually dressed the same as they were at the nursing home. We just got back from Laughlin, and I am always surprised at what some people think is appropriate attire. I suppose they want us to dress nice, so we shall. It’s fun to have an excuse to get dressed up. They’re having it at a pretty nice hotel, down near the bay. We’re getting a room. I figure we may as well live it up a little bit. Although, I do have to say, that with Mexico, and Laughlin, we have been living it up a bit more than normal. That’s why I’m not sweating it too bad. In a usual year we’d probably only stay at a hotel for our anniversary, and this party. It all just kind of goes back to what I wrote a few posts ago, the holiday season just keeps rolling on. And we still have one more weekend to go!
Next weekend should be crazy. Both my
bands are playing a show at our friend’s brewery for their 4th anniversary.
That’s a long crazy day. I’m pretty excited. We’re all pretty excited. Then,
the very next day is the Super Bowl! That’s what I call a full weekend. I may
not actually sober up that weekend. My wife seems very excited about this party
tomorrow. I guess the people at work can’t stop talking about it, you probably
know how it is. Any time an event comes up, part of the fun is the
anticipation. That alone is enough to fuel the idea that events should be had.
Last year the theme was the “Roaring Twenties.” We found some costumes, it was
okay. She was very new at that time, and only knew a few people. I can’t
imagine how it’s going to be this year. She’s already referring to people as
her “friends.” She didn’t have any “friends” there last year. It’s funny that
she was only gone from the company for 4 months. It felt longer than that. I
guess because technically she didn’t really leave, she just switched to
part-time, she is still considered to have been there for over a year. That was
a long year. That’s another good reason to have these types of events: the
passage of time. Sometimes if you don’t have things like this, years could pass
before you notice. As I write this I am having a difficult time believing all
that has happened in the past year. Whoa! I know I kind of went over it all on
my year end posts, but it’s hitting me again, 2022 was packed! And here we go
again. At the risk of jinxing it, this year already feels a lot better. But
anyway, this is not about that, this is about finishing out this “holiday”
season. Being huge football fans, technically Super Bowl is our end of the
year. Then the resolutions start.
I also thought it was weird that the party
we’re going to tomorrow is from 7:30 to 10:30, and on the flyer it says there will be appetizers and
desserts. So, we were not sure if we should eat before we go, or assume the
appetizers would be plentiful. We would never eat enough dessert to make a
difference. I figured we’d eat a little before we got there, so we’d still be
able to enjoy ourselves either way. However, her manager invited us to go to
dinner with her and her husband. What’s more, is they invited us to a very
fancy restaurant. It’s a place we’ve been wanting to go to for quite some time
now. But we were kind of waiting for a special occasion to justify the expense.
Well, I guess this is the special occasion! It’s weird though because it’s
downtown, not really close to where the party and our hotel is. Apparently they’re
not getting a room. Here’s another thing: They want to have dinner at 6. I’m
not sure there’s actually enough time for us to have dinner at 6 and get to
where we need to be by 7:30. I guess we don’t have to be there right at 7:30.
It’s a party, we can stroll in whenever we want. I’ll try to relax on that point.
My wife is very excited about this dinner. It’s like someone invited her to be
in the club. I kind of get it. But I’m also kind of like: “It’s weird having
dinner with strangers.” We just had our first couples dinner date a few months
ago, now here’s another one! Then I have to go hang out with a bunch of other
strangers!? If it was all the same event, it might not bother me, but this feels
weird. Plus, we’ve really been wanting to go to this restaurant. And now I’m
not sure if I’m going to be able to eat the way I would if it was just us on a
special day. I don’t want to be too full, I’m most likely going to have to
dance!
