Fixing What Needs Fixed

I haven’t even looked to see how long ago I did this last. I know it was a while ago. Too long. I guess the best I can do is start with today, and what I’m thinking about right now. Right now, I am actually typing on my laptop. The first time I have attempted to use it for this process. Part of the reason I’ve been so absent is that our daughter is still living in our office. I suppose I’ve had time, here and there, but it has easily been slipping my mind. Today, I’m actually sitting here by myself, bored I guess, and it occurred to me that it has been a while, and that I’ve been missing out on something I enjoy. I can’t use the office computer because it is at the repair shop. A few days ago, my wife and I were in our room, and we heard a loud “Bang” from the office. Our daughter yelled out “I’m okay!” And I jokingly said “Yeah, but what about my stuff?” She said it was fine. That was until the next day when we went to use the computer, and it would not come on. The tower came on, but the monitor and the keyboard were not receiving any signal. I asked if anything had happened, and that’s when she said that the loud noise was a milk crate full of her clothes falling, and crashing into the tower. Bummer. We have so much on there! I hope it’s a quick, easy, inexpensive fix. I know we’ve been thinking about upgrading, but now is definitely not the time. I just want it to go back to working, and then we can deal with the future in the future. There’s too much going on right now to have to deal with this too.

It is now 3:55. The last paragraph was finished at 3:02. I know that because that is when I received a text that my bass amp was ready, so I went to pick it up. That is as good an example as any as to how life is going right now. 3 people, 3 schedules, 2 cars. Things need done when they can be done. Plus, everything keeps breaking! I know it’s not her fault, but it does seem a little strange that since she has come to stay with us, things have needed fixed. Our commuter car needed the battery replaced, as soon as she started using it. Then the front tire was losing air pressure, apparently something got stuck in the tire, so we needed to get that fixed. Then I was in the middle of a show, halfway through the third song of the second set, and my bass amp just stopped working. Luckily, we were doing our own sound, and I was right near the PA, so I just popped my chord out of my amp and into the PA, and we went on without missing a beat. It seemed very professional to those who had any idea what was going on. Even listening back to the recording, it was barely noticeable. But I just had my amp fixed! This is the fourth time I’ve had to fix this thing. I can never recommend one of these. When it’s working, I like it, but I would never suggest anyone get the amp I have. I’m half tempted to let them know. And now the computer is broke! One thing after another. As mentioned earlier, I know it’s not her fault. It’s just interesting to me that this all started when she came to stay with us, and she came to stay with us because she broke someone else’s property. I don’t believe in coincidence.

Other than that, things are mostly good. I feel better than I have felt in 7 months, so that is good! I’m trying to get back into the habit of doing things, but it’s kind of difficult with so many other things to take care of. Also, a lot of the things I’d like to be doing involve the office, which as mentioned earlier, has an occupant. My punk rock band had a show at a club we’ve been trying to get into. That was pretty cool. The venue kind of sucked, but we had fun. The first band was so boring that I think it changed my mind about the kind of people I want to be associated with. We lit that place up when we started, but we barely brought anyone. Neither did the other bands. It was a little lame. But we certainly brought the energy. We’re not sure why more of our people weren’t there. My prog band had a gig the very next week. We played well, I thought we rocked it. But we only brought 25-30 people, so it felt a little empty. The guitar player and I had a conversation about why there weren’t more people there. We never came to a conclusion. It’s a little disheartening. I’m not sure if we’re reaching our end. If people don’t want to come see us, then what are we doing? I’m hoping people have just been busy. I had another comedy show last night. I guess it went okay, but again no people. It was on the patio at a brewery. The setting was kind of cool, but comedy to nobody is not that fun. There were 6 of us, and nobody brought anybody. Well, there may have been 10 others, but 6 of those were random. I’m starting to think I don’t have nearly as many “friends” as I thought.
